So I decided to start this blog after reading Jonathan Gunson's guide for authors. (An excellent piece of work and available for FREE. I would recommend any upcoming writers to download and read it here).
I had a brief brush with blogging way back in 2007 when MySpace was still big, but once Facebook took hold of the world I let my blog die quietly as did everyone else I know with an account. Facebook and Twitter are now the new online networking tools and show no signs of slowing down.
I was initially reluctant to do this. I always figured, why write about my writing? It seemed pretentious and a waste of time. Time that could otherwise be spent actually working on my books. That was until I reached my current period of downtime. Having finished the first draft of the first book in my ambitious epic fantasy series, I found myself needing a break from big writing. The book was the longest thing I'd ever written and while pleased and proud of it, I needed a break. I am already on facebook and twitter, but they only give limited exposure to an authors thoughts and feelings, twitter being limited to its 140 characters and no one on facebook having time for lengthy reads. (Facebook has its Notes app, but I personally have never read nor known anyone to read them).
So here it is, my first blog post as an official author. I have already self-published two books, both alternate history. I have two short stories in the official publishing process and have just finished an epic fantasy novel. I have no idea how often I will post here, my writing fist and foremost will always come first. If I'm in the middle of a book, I wouldn't let this distract me from plowing through it, but there are those days when the creative juices are running low. I write for an hour, two at the most and then just pack it in. I'm hoping that with this as my home base, during those times, I can at least use my time to work on my online presence, something which has become vastly important in today's world of books and writing.
